Dear “Voices of Latin Rock” Fans,
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have made this 5th Year Anniversary show possible. This year’s “Voices of Latin Rock” Awareness for Autism event will be held on Saturday, January 24th, 2009 at the newly refurbished Warfield Theater in San Francisco.
This show will feature some of the new and “best of” talent from previous years. The lineup includes WAR; Azteca featuring Pete Escovedo, Sheila E., along with founding members Wendy Haas, Errol Knowles, Victor Pantoja; Los Cenzontles; members of Malo; Santana; El Chicano; Cold Blood; Cold Blood; Sly and the Family Stone and more surprise artists as in past years.
This year’s honorees will be a “Ladies Night.” We will be honoring Rita Gentry, Wendy Haas, Lydia Pense and Sheila E. To purchase tickets at ticketmaster.com, click here.
The show benefits schools in the Bay Area dealing with autism on a daily basis. This disorder has increased recently to 1 in 150 births, up from 1 in 166 just a few years ago. When questioned about special needs children in the most recent presidential debates, both candidates mentioned the need for increased funding for research for autism, specifically as it approaches epidemic numbers. With your help we can continue our support of both schools and research for autism. This year our goal is to do both.
We would like to welcome the MIND Institute to our event. The MIND Institute in Davis is a collaborative international research center, committed to the awareness, understanding, prevention, care and cure of neurodevelopmental disorders. The mission of the MIND Istitute is to find effective treatments and cures for autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
